Why I Want to Take Part in MI7

1. I love the country of Ukraine. I love the countryside, the sunflowers, and the long summer days. I love the wide streets with the sidewalks in the middle for walking. I love the buses and the interaction that happens every day when you are not isolated in a car for all your transportation. I love the fact that the people of Ukraine are proud of their heritage and of what the country has to offer the whole world, despite struggles to transition from a different system.

2. I love the people of Ukraine. In general I love that the people are warm, hospitable, giving, and expressive. They are strong in the face of many trials. In particular, I love the many friends we have been privileged to know over the years. It truly feels like visiting family each time we return. We have been extended friendship in spite of our cultural shortcomings, offenses, and ignorance. Grace has been given to us and these friends have been faithful and loving through the years. I have been delighted to see most of these friends develop into leaders in the Christian community and servants of our Lord Jesus. What a delight to share in ministry with them in MI7.

3. I love meeting believers from other countries. What a picture of heaven to worship the Lord together in different languages, cultures, and practices. It is such a challenge and encouragement to my life, to my church in Memphis to know of what is happening in the larger kingdom of God around the world. To learn how other believers participate in their churches, how they seek the will of God, how they struggle, and how God provides for them is exciting.

4. I love learning with, working with, and seeking the Lord with young people. I like the fresh approach that I see when relating to people that are not at the same time of life as me. I love the energy, excitement, and enthusiasm of high school and college age students. What fun to share in these memories and develop relationships with those that will lead my church and the church around the world in the days to come.

5. I love to share the Good News of God’s redemption and grace. What a wonder that the Creator of the universe has provided a way for us through Jesus Christ, to be in relationship with Him. We can become the children of God. I am amazed that He entrusts such a precious treasure to a pot of clay. I love to tell how God provides freedom from condemnation and gives us hope and a future. It is very intimidating to start a conversation with someone about spiritual things, but so much more rewarding and interesting than idle talk. I pray that I will be conscious of the eternal consequences of each encounter and that each moment will be redeemed to the Lord.

6. I love what God does in my life through mission. I learn so much about God and about the areas in my life that need His hand to change. It is a spiritual discipline to obey the call to mission without knowing the schedule, plan, agenda, and details; to trust that God can use me if I am obedient to Him and not try to control or plan how I think things will work. It is very great to serve the Lord Jesus with believers from all over the world. I gain a much clearer, larger perspective of what God is doing in the world. I return home with a new view of how my culture, habits, and way of looking at things should all be re-evaluated in light of God’s word.

7. I love to travel and to have new experiences and adventures. I love to meet new people and hear their story of God’s work in their life. It is amazing to hear how God calls believers from every tongue and nation in such varied and creative ways. I love to hear different languages and to try to learn to understand and communicate in a language other than my own.

God is faithful and will continue His work begun in my life. I am excited to see what He will do through Mission Impossible 7.

Ephesians 4:17-19 And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge-that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
